Mozart Morality
The deep conversation with Tuba player and church pastor, Doug Avilesbernal and bassoonist Jonathan. You can hear the other segments of their conversation on the previous episode.
For this deep conversation, Jonathan and Doug geek out on Mozart’s great opera Don Giovanni. Yes, it gets a little music nerdy at times, but they also look at the theological themes that can be found in this classic Don Juan story.
It is a story about conviction, identity, and speaking truth to power (or not). We can be people of good conviction or not, we can be a people of morality or not. It is a great opera that speaks to broader notions and ideas of what it means to live in relationships in a responsible way. Listen to the podcast and then go and listen to the opera. It is worth it!
