Cash Evangelism
“Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.”
These iconic words do not open up the podcast, but resound in our inner ears as Jonathan joins Travis Norvell to talk about Johnny Cash, his music, and his presence in Christianity and popular culture. Travis is the senior pastor of Judson Memorial Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Perhaps one of the more refreshing aspects of Johnny Cash is that he does not come from a traditional, good, wholesome, Christian background. Cash lived a life of drugs and pain as well as integrity and honesty. He is a complicated individual and speaks to the complicated nature of life. This makes him a great figure to offer a bridge between the hope of Christianity and the pain and reality of life. Travis and Jonathan talk about a couple of songs, and the ways that Cash enlightens aspects of Christianity.
