Kitchen Table Spirituality - Thoughts in Solitude - 1

A Weekly devotional with pastors Jonathan Malone and Charley Eastman

For the month of July, the evening devotional will be based on Thomas Merton’s work Thoughts in Solitude

For this episode we give an overview and introduction to the book. Next week, we will review chapters 1-16. You don’t have to read the book, but it would help.

Here is our schedule for the entire month:

  • July 1: Overview and introduction to the book.

  • July 8th: Reviewing  Chapters 1-16.

  • July 15th: Review Chapters 17-23

  • July 22nd: Review Chapters 24-30

  • July 29th: Review Chapters 31-37 and WRAP PARTY!

Here is the prayer for this week:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

- Francis of Assisi (1181-1226)
